Olcheski-Bell win
Martina Olcheski-Bell stormed to victory in the National Capital Olympic Triathlon in Ottawa on Saturday.
Olcheski-Bell, who is the Bermuda Olympic and sprint distance champion, was the first female finisher in a time of 2hr 31min 21sec.
She was more than five minutes quicker than Marian Coke, the second-fastest women’s competitor in the 45-women field.
Olcheski-Bell said she was delighted with her performance after a month of recovery after finishing sixth in the triathlon at the NatWest Island Games in Jersey.
“It wasn’t my fastest swim,” said Olcheski-Bell, whose victory was particularly meaningful as she is from Ottawa.
“I felt strong on the bike as it was a very flat four-loop course and I was quickly able to overtake the two girls that were ahead of me after the swim leg.
“I just ran as fast as I could for the 10 kilometres to maintain my lead and it turns out that I had the fastest time out of all of the female competitors.”
