Two longstanding jewellery businesses are to join forces on a new retail venture.
Swiss Timing Ltd and Walker Christopher Ltd are to launch Swiss and Walker, specialising in custom work, watch and jewellery repairs as well as watch and jewellery sales.
The joint venture will be located at 9 Front Street, formerly the home of Walker Christopher. Swiss Timing will close its location at 95 Front Street on Saturday, with the new shop set to open at the beginning of November.
A spokesperson for the new venture said the merger was borne out of Swiss Timing’s desire to expand into the higher end jewellery and watch market, while Walker Christopher was looking to downsize due to the retirement of its head jeweller.
Swiss Timing said it began a rebranding process three years ago when Jordan Roberts Jewellers, a division of Swiss Timing, opened in the Walker Arcade in Hamilton.
Jordan Roberts Jewellers will continue to carry watches, clocks, jewellery and gifts in the mid-range price points, including some brands previously available at Swiss Timing’s shop at 95 Front Street.
Swiss and Walker will carry higher end watches and jewellery.
The spokesperson said the workshop of Swiss and Walker will continue to produce the unique designs, custom items and timepieces that both companies are known for. Walker Christopher’s sterling silver Christmas ornaments will continue to be available at the new joint venture store.
Swiss Timing co-owners Deborah and Leo Jordan will run the stores, with Ms Jordan at the helm of Jordan Roberts and Mr Jordan directing Swiss and Walker.
Walker Christopher opened for business in 1984 in the Walker Arcade, while Swiss Timing opened next door four years later.
