Mr Chicken owners secure Shelly Bay planning
The owners of Mr Chicken have secured planning permission for a new restaurant near Shelly Bay.
However speaking yesterday, David Furbert said he did not know if he would be moving forward with the project.
“I have not made up my mind,” he said.
According to a planning application, David and Beryl Furbert sought permission to build a 38-seat restaurant at 96 North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish, near Idlewood Drive.
The project would also include an upstairs residential unit, a parking lot and sound barrier fencing to help reduce the impact on neighbours.
Several objections were raised about the project, primarily by neighbours who expressed concerns about traffic and noise stemming from the restaurant.
However in a meeting on July 12, the Development Applications Board decided to approve the application after discussion.
According to the minutes of the meeting, the board questioned technical officers about waste collection, noting that a private hauler would be contracted to collect the waste from the restaurant.
They also asked why a separate access to the property was not created at the western end of the property specifically to serve the upstairs residential unit.
“The technical officer explained one access was recommended to minimise the number of access points along North Shore Road given the number that already exist,” the minutes stated.
“This was also supported by the highways section.
“The board asked whether consideration had been given to create an access off Idlewood Drive with more direct access to the residential parking area. This will negate the need for an additional access point but allow for more direct access to the residential parking area.
“The technical officer confirmed that the application site did not have a legal right of way over this roadway and as such that was not an option.”
The full application is available for viewing at the Department of Planning.
