The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service (BF&RS) annual Fire Safety Awareness Week Awards Ceremony, which marks the end of the week-long event, was held on Friday 12 October.

The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne M. Caines, JP, MP, participated in the ceremony and had this to say, “The men and women of the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service are a valued resource and I commend their efforts to educate the public on the importance of fire safety.”

Continued Minister Caines, ”Seeing the many children, adults and organizations take the fire safety message to heart is very encouraging.”

The poster and essay contest winners are as follow:

? Poster Contest Ages 2-4

• 1st Place – Nia Cross - Aeries Adventure Nursery & Preschool

• 2nd Place Kahzai Hollis – Somerset Primary

• 3rd Place - Sierre Soares - Warwick Academy

• Honorable Mention - Quest Talbot - Heritage Nursery and Pre School

? Poster Contest Ages 5-6

• 1st Place Anya Burns – Purvis Primary

• 2nd Place Annabell Shah – Warwick Academy

• 3rd Place Devi Samuels – Warwick Academy

• Honorable Mention - Riana Robinson - West Pembroke Primary School

? Poster Contest Ages 7-10 (Create a Fire Truck for the Future)

• 1st Place Florence Russell Warwick Academy

• 2nd Place Kylee Hollis – West Pembroke

• 3rd Place - Sophia Moore – Warwick Academy

• Honorable Mention - Azaria Atwell – Purvis Primary School

? Essay Contest Primary School Level Topic ”If I were Fire Chief of Bermuda How Would you Promote Fire Safety?”

• 1st Place – Christopher Furtado – Saltus Grammar School

• 2nd Place – Azaria Atwell - Purvis Primary School

• 3rd Place – Ailie Waddington – Warwick Academy

? Community Fire Safety Award – Bermuda Society for the Blind
