Sergio Pacheco will stand trial in February on allegations that he killed young sports star Machai Campbell in a road collision last December 30.

Allegations ranging from death caused by dangerous driving to gang violence and theft came up during the monthly arraignments session at Supreme Court.

Sergio Pacheco, aged 32, denied killing teenage sports star Machai Campbell by driving a motorcycle in a dangerous manner. Mr. Campbell, 19, died when his bike collided with another motorcycle on Cavendish Road in Pembroke last December 30.

Pacheco, of Pembroke, is a Portuguese national. His lawyer Richard Horseman told the court he'll need an interpreter during his trial, which was fixed for February 1.

Mr. Campbell played football for Dandy Town Hornets and cricket for Western Stars. He was a member of the Bermuda under-19 side that went to the cricket World Cup in Malaysia in 2007.

In another case, Mendall Outerbridge, aged 23, of Sandys, had his trial set for February 2 on allegations that he killed Raymond (Smockie) Curtis in a hit-and-run collision. Mr. Curtis, also of Sandys, was allegedly struck by a car on Malabar Road as he walked home from Woody's Sports Bar in the early hours of September 6, 2008.

Outerbridge denies manslaughter and driving a car in a dangerous manner, without a vehicle licence and without third party insurance. He was bailed until his trial.

Frederick Anthony Swann, 26, pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Damon Robinson on August 15. Mr. Robinson was found unconscious and bleeding on Reid Street in Hamilton in the early hours of the morning.

Swann's co-accused, Jermaine Simmons, 27, fled the Island after the alleged attack and is currently in the United States, according to prosecutor Michael McColm. Yesterday a woman, Carlena Caines, 28, was charged with being an accessory to the crime by helping Simmons flee the scene and the Island. She also pleaded not guilty. Their trial was set for January 25 and the pair, who both hail from Pembroke, were bailed.

Husband and wife David and Antoinette Bolden will stand trial on April 5 on charges that they stole $360,000 from Emerald Financial Capital International Ltd. Mr. Bolden, 47, and his 46-year-old wife face a total of 24 charges of stealing and money laundering relating to funds allegedly taken from the company they founded. The Hamilton Parish pair deny the allegations and were bailed until their trial date.

Seven men accused of a mob attack in Hamilton Parish also pleaded not guilty. Detroy Smith, 23, Kyle Tannock Williams, 28, Damon Darrell, 27, Bennett Phipps, 25, Allan Douglas, 22, Kiawan Trott, 25, and Kiwaun Gilbert, 23, are alleged to have wounded Temasgan Furbert with intent in Midland Heights Crescent and caused wilful damage during the night of February 27, 2009.

Four of the men also face weapons charges relating to the same incident. Trott and Douglas are said to have been armed with machetes, Williams is said to have had a baseball bat and Darrell an electric drill. They deny the allegations and were bailed ahead of their next court appearance on December 1 when a trial date will be fixed.

In another case, Perry Eugene Hayward, 29, faces a string of robbery charges. He's alleged to have robbed Andrew Smethurst of a ring and gold chain worth $2,600 on August 24 in Paget. That same day, he's accused of robbing Aaron Daniels of a gold chain in Smith's and of possessing a knife with a blade in excess of three inches in public. The next day, he's said to have robbed Aiden Cutler of $40 in cash in Smith's.

Hayward, of no fixed address, faces a further charge of handling stolen goods in relation to the ring and gold chain. He denies the allegations and was remanded into custody. His trial date will be set when he comes back to court on December 1.
