Somerset Flyers lost their first match of the season going down to St. George's International by four points on Saturday night.

St. George's quickly tied the game at 16 thanks to the guard play of Jonathan Lugo, who top scored with 18 points, and Damon Saunders.

Despite the two teams trading baskets for most of the first half, a three-pointer in the final seconds of the half by Somerset guard Shaquille Mouchette gave his team a narrow lead.

In the second half both teams came out shooting, with Jonathan Lowe making amends for a series of missed shots from his team-mates with put-backs, pushing the Flyer's lead to six points.

St. George's would pull within two with 10 minutes remaining after back-to-back turnovers by Somerset's guards.

In the last four minutes of action Lugo hit back-to-back jump shots to pull his team within one.

Mouchette was subsequently stripped the ball driving to the basket, which led to an acrobatic dunk by Dean Jones to give St. George's their first lead in the second half. A pull-up jumper by Lugo in the final seconds sealed St. George's' comeback.

Lowe and Mouchette both scored 15 points in their side's loss.

Pembroke Cane Toads 79

Titans' losing streak continued with this loss to the Pembroke Cane Toads, who remain unbeaten.

Both sides struggled early on to find their scoring touch with the Cane Toads finally hitting a jump shot to put them on the scoreboard after three minutes had already been played.

The Toads would score the next 12 points to take a 14-0 lead. Titans' leading scorer Husayne Symonds (18) eventually put his team on the scoreboard with back-to-back lay-ups to cut into the Toads lead.

After shooting from the field, the Toads pushed their lead to 20 points and never looked back.

Going into the second half down 21 points, Titans went on a 12-2 run led by Symonds to bring them within 11.

However, the prolific shooting of the Cane Toads guards and quickness of Lee Green ended any hopes Titans had of fighting back. Toads extended their lead to 20 after coast-to-coast lay-ups and two consecutive three pointers by leading scorer Phil Davis, who ended up with 19.

The Toads are now 5-0 while the Titans are 0-5.

Hamilton Parish Ch'gers 67

Devonshire Dragons 38

Struggling defending champions Hamilton Parish Chargers got their second win of the season as they crushed the Dragons, thanks in large part to Calvert Lee and Jonathon Minors, who scored 19 and 17 points respectively.

With the recent addition of diminutive forward Terrance Dill, Devonshire captain John Lee was excited despite the defeat.

"Terrance is undoubtedly one of the most athletic players in the league. His presence will definitely help our team," he said

However, Dill, who top scored with 16 points, didn't get enough support from his teammates.

Chargers forward Minors helped his team to an eight-point lead after a fade-away jump shot and a spinning lay-up, giving his team a 28-20 lead at the half.

Parish came out fighting in the second half, going on a 12-0 run led by Lee and the Dragons had no answer as the forward slithered through the heart of their defence to score 14 of his game-high 19.

As Devonshire struggled to find the target, Hamilton Parish guard Mike Smith continued to attack the Dragons defence, setting up a series of scores for his team-mates.
