Drunk driver didn't see Police trying to stop him

By Tauria Raynor

A man from Denmark admitted to drunk driving when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The court heard from Crown Counsel Takiyah Burgess that Jensen Lars, 32, of Simons Drive, Warwick was speeding along Harbour Road at 1.55 a.m., ignoring Police attempts to stop him.

Police were finally able to stop him near Pomander Road. They approached Lars who smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and glazed eyes and ask him if he had been drinking. "I had a few," he said.

He was asked why he did not stop when prompted and he said: "I did not see any Police."

Lars was then arrested and taken to the Police station where he was given a breath test. The lower of his two readings was 217 ml of alcohol in 100 ml of blood; the legal limit is 80 ml.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000 and awarded him 10 demerit points. He was subsequently disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
