Revs star Smith regrets injury
Yesterday certainly was a very busy day for Khano Smith. He had not one, but two football games to follow very closely. Like many US sports fans, Smith and his New England Revolution teammates watched and rooted for the New England Patriots against the New York Giants in the Super Bowl. But hours prior to that Smith was following another type of football and a team that is even closer to his heart — the Bermuda national team.

World Cup win a real team performance
To kick-off my debut column with The Royal Gazette, I must start by talking about Bermuda's victory over Cayman Islands in our recent World Cup qualifier. The pressure was on us to get the job done down there and credit to the guys, we all pulled through together - it was a real team performance. To be honest I didn't have much of a game and my touch just wasn't there.

Khano buoyed by double strike in Mexico
An in-form Khano Smith might just be the tonic Bermuda need if they are to get past Cayman Islands in the Caribbean later this month. The New England Revolution star sat out Bermuda's 1-1 World Cup first leg draw with the Caymans on home turf last month because of a groin injury, but recently bagged a brace in the Revs' 4-1 demolition of Pioneros de Cancun in Mexico to show signs he was fast rounding into top form.

Khano upbeat about World Cup qualifiers
Major League Soccer star Khano Smith has started the countdown to the World Cup qualifiers declaring, "I'm ready to take on the Cayman Islands", after returning to the national team set-up. Smith, who missed Bermuda's friendly matches against St. Kitts and Nevis because of injury, met up with his team-mates in training this week as they prepare for next month's qualifying showdown.

World Cup hopes boosted as key players return
Keith Tucker has been handed a major boost ahead of Bermuda's World Cup qualifying showdown against Cayman Islands with a raft of key players set to return. Bermuda's only doubt for next weekend's crunch encounter is New England Revolution's Khano Smith who is nursing a groin injury and will need permission from Rev's medical staff. Philadelphia Kixx marksman John Barry Nusum is back on board, Ipswich Town hot-property Reggie Lambe will be jetting in from the UK,

Khano out of televised clash
Bermuda's Khano Smith will have to sit out New England Revolution's MLS Cup play-off game against Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium tonight. Smith was sent off for a high tackle when Revs played Kansas City Wizards last weekend. Tonight's match will be televised on ESPN2 with kick off at 9.30 p.m. (Bermuda time). The two teams will meet again on next Thursday in Chicago.

Khano out
Major League Soccer (MLS) star Khano Smith underwent groin surgery at a Boston hospital yesterday to raise serious doubts about his ability to regain match fitness in time for Bermuda's crucial away World Cup qualifier against Cayman Island in March. The 26-year-old footballer had planned to return to national team duty for Sunday's home leg of the Island's World Cup qualifying encounter against Cayman Island,

Strike ace Nusum eyes new record
Silence will be golden for national team striker John Barry Nusum who has vowed the keep the Cayman Islands crowd quiet by breaking Shaun Goater's goalscoring record in tomorrow's World Cup showdown. Nusum requires two more goals to leapfrog Goater as Bermuda's most prolific marksman in World Cup qualifiers, and knows hitting the net is the only way to keep the 3,000 sell-out crowd silent.

Good start is vital for us, says Thompson
Bermuda coach Kenny Thompson has stressed the importance of making a winning start to their Digicel Cup campaign, admitting: "Victory against Antigua will really ease the pressure." Thompson has warned his team that they do not want to playing catch up after tonight's curtain raiser against the Antiguans, who are expected to pose Bermuda the greatest threat to topping their group. "It's crucial to get off to a good start in any group competition," he said.
