If the cap fits: Nathan Trott kept a clean sheet for England

Nathan Trott earned his second cap for England Under-20 and kept another clean sheet as the home side thrashed the Czech Republic 4-0 in an international friendly at St George’s Park on Tuesday.

Trott has yet to concede a goal in two appearances for England at this level.

“As a keeper it always feels great to keep a clean sheet so it’s always a good feeling,” Trott told The Royal Gazette.

“I’ve got a great team and amazing defence, so it makes everything more simple for me.

“Every cap for England is as special as the last one and it’s the greatest honour as a footballer to represent a country as a great as England.”

Goals from Leicester City defender Darnell Johnson, Arsenal striker Stephy Mavididi, with a penalty, and Harvey Barnes put England 3-0 up at the break before Mavididi, on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End completed the scoring late in the second half.

“We dominated the majority of the game, if not all, defensively and offensively,” Trott said.

The West Ham United Under-23 player made his England Under-20 debut in a 3-0 win away to Holland during last month’s international break.

He was also a part of the England Under-19 squad that won the European Championship in Georgia after beating Portugal 2-1 in the final during the summer. Trott said he approaches international duty as he would any other game.

“I approach every game the same and our manager [Keith Downing] lets us know that we have to play how we would play at our clubs,” he added.

“I have settled in already as I have been with the team for around a year now, so I already know my job and how we play.

“The next step for me really is to keep doing what I am doing and continue my good form this season and keep earning more caps for England.”
