Rain delays Sims' Q- School bid
Michael Sims (above) will attempt to finish the third round in the second stage of PGA Tour Q School this morning after rain drenched the TPC Craig Ranch course in McKinney, Texas yesterday.
None of those in the 80-strong field managed to complete their round although most did get out on the course.
It couldn't be determined last night how many holes Sims had played yesterday before darkness forced play to be suspended.
There now remains some doubt over whether the final round will be completed today or will spill over tomorrow.
Sims shot a one-under 70 on Thursday to follow and even-par 71 on Wednesday and was tied for 19th after 36 holes.
Only the top 21 from the second stage of Q School advance to the final five-round qualifying stage where players get chance to earn a full PGA Tour card or Nationwide Tour card.
The 30-year-old Bermudian already has partial Nationwide Tour status for next year after finishing an agonising 61st at the end of this year's regular season when only the top 60 retained full status on that circuit.
n Nick Jones, in his second year at Stetson University in Florida, has earned a sixth place finish during a Moonlight Tour event.
Jones shot an even-par 72 at the Hunters Creek GC in Orlando. He posted six birdies, a double bogey and four bogeys on the 7,268 yard course.
The Moonlight Tour is a developmental tour open to scratch players and by finishing in the top 10, Jones is eligible for a next level event.
n Four young Bermudian players, successful on the local Ross (Blackie) Talbot Summer Tour, gained some valuable experience when they played in a junior event in Florida recently.
Accompanied by pro Eardley Jones, organiser of the Talbot Tour, the youngsters competed at Providence GC in Davenport in the Greater Orlando Junior Golf Tour Championship. Scott Gilbertson finished ninth in the 13/15 age group, Dwayne Pearman jr. 10th and Matthew Smith 15th in that same division.
John Seymour, playing in the 16/18 age group, had to withdraw in his second round.
