Kevin Brown trial wrapping up

The sex trial of former Premier Ewart Brown’s doctor son is due to start wrapping up in Los Angeles today.

Kevin Brown, a 40-year-old physician, is accused of sexually assaulting a dozen female patients.

His trial at Los Angeles Superior Court, which opened on July 25, has heard from women who claim they were assaulted or inappropriately touched by the accused when they came to him for treatment.

Prosecutors say he assaulted almost a dozen female patients, including an undercover police officer, under the guise of unnecessary breast and pelvic examinations beginning in 2003.

His 2008 arrest came after several women contacted authorities and accused him of sexually battering or raping them during those examinations.

The trial heard last week from undercover officer Stacey Young from the Los Angeles Police Department, who posed as a patient for a June 2008 undercover operation at the doctor’s practice.

Ms Young said he caught her off-guard during an examination when he pulled up her top and exposed her left breast.

Dr Kevin Brown denies 33 felony sex charges and could face life in prison if convicted on all counts.

According to information from the court, the evidence in the trial concluded last week Thursday. Since then, the attorneys and judge have been in discussions.

Today, the judge is due to instruct the jury, before closing speeches from prosecutor Ms Wise and defence lawyer Edi Faal commence.
