A motorcylist who assaulted a police officer and ran off after he was stopped for speeding has been fined $1,100.Shawn York was pulled over on St John’s Road in Pembroke after an officer saw his motorbike run past a stop sign at high speed, Magistrates’ Court heard.York told officers his name was Quincy Jones and that he worked at Belco. He added: “I’m late for work and my ID’s at work.”York then tackled the police officer to the ground and ran off.But police found documents in the motorcycle that identified York, and arrested him later.He told police: “I ran because I had warrants. I didn’t fight anybody.”York, 41, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and escape from lawful custody on Thursday.
