A man was fined $1,500 and banned from the roads after he admitted obstruction of police officers and drink-driving.LaWayne Fubler pleaded guilty at Magistrates’ Court last Friday to the offences, which were committed on July 29 in Sandys.The 35-year-old admitted obstruction of three police constables who were “acting in the execution of their duty”.He also admitted driving on Malabar Road while impaired.Cindy Clarke, the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Prosecutions, told the court that the incident happened at about 10.45pm when police officers spotted Fubler riding a black Honda Scoopy without a helmet.She said that the officers pulled over the bike and interviewed Fubler.The court heard Fubler “rushed aggressively” at an officer, became verbally abusive and prevented the police from carrying out their duties.Ms Clarke added that he was arrested for not wearing a helmet.She said that Fubler was “flailing and pushing with his legs on the outside of the police vehicle”.Ms Clarke added he had to be “physically pulled” into the patrol car.The court heard that Fubler smelled of liquor and his speech was slurred.Ms Clarke said that he “admitted to being intoxicated on several occasions”.Fubler, from Sandys, apologised to the officers in court.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $500 on the obstruction charge and $1,000 for drink driving.Fubler was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
