Man who broke protection order given jail time
A man who breached a domestic violence protection order has been sentenced to 28 days behind bars.
Michael Williams III, 22, admitted violating the order when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month.
The court heard that Williams rode his bike behind the protected person in April and shouted “you’re f*****g up” when they parked by a bus shelter in Devonshire.
Williams, from Southampton, was remanded into custody after admitting the offence and reappeared in court yesterday for sentencing.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson said Bermuda has an “alarming rate” of domestic abuse-related offences, which had become “almost a part of our culture”.
She ordered that time already spent in custody be taken into account in his sentence, which will be followed by two years’ probation.
