Dear Sir,

I find it disturbing and infuriating that some politicians in Bermuda would take away gay marriage, but then seek to attract LGBT members to the island for tourism.

Just when I think I can’t take any more reading of the hypocrisy/prejudices of the Trump Administration, I open The Royal Gazette online to read that stinking hypocrisy back in Bermuda.

Bermuda has become a disappointment to the LGBT community and any other forward-thinking member of the global community. Bermuda gets the regrettable title of being the only place to allow gay marriage and then revoke it. That’s nothing to be proud of, and everything to be utterly ashamed of.

The island continues to chase away not only tourists, but born and bred, intelligent Bermudians that seek only acceptance to love the person they are attracted to.

God makes no mistakes. LGBT people are not mistakes. It is not a choice. The Bible that many use as justification was also used to allow rape, polygamy and slavery.

This mindset of “let us not allow gays to marry, but let’s take their money” is the exact same mindset whites used to allow blacks to go to same places as whites, but not intermingle with them — to segregate them and not to get the same treatment.

This was their justification to treat people that are different as a second-class citizen. The very same was done to women.

These things still go on, but it all needs to stop. This is 2018, not 1818. Domestic partnership is not equality. It is segregation.
