Storm leaves hundreds without power
Hundreds of people were this morning left without power after high winds caused three outages.
A Belco spokeswoman said: "Starting at approximately 3.45am, high winds and rain contributed to three major outages in Warwick, Paget and Tuckers Town, as well as several smaller outages scattered across the Island. In all, approximately 875 customers were affected.
"In Warwick, where 365 were without power when a tree fell near Lindos, coming into contact with overhead lines, all but 92 have had power restored.
"Works & Engineering has requested that a second tree be cut down; lines are de-energized, so that crews can work safely to complete that job. Other restoration work on smaller outages is also in progress with approximately 140 customers in total (including the 92 in Warwick) off at this time.
"While Belco always has two crews on standby overnight, today six crews were called in.
"Belco wishes to remind the community to call 955 to report outages or other emergencies, such as downed power lines. We thank customers for their patience as crews and our Operations Center work on power restoration."
