Cup run was an amazing journey, says proud Nahki

Nahki Wells has reflected on his ‘unbelievable’ League Cup journey and urged Bradford City to put their heavy Wembley final defeat behind them and win promotion.

Wells and his teammates endured a miserable afternoon on Sunday against Premier League Swansea City who hammered the Bantams 5-0 to win their first major competition.

The former Dandy Town man’s disappointment was compounded when he was substituted after Matt Duke’s sending off as manager Phil Parkinson was forced to sacrifice a forward in order to bring on replacement goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

Rather than dwell on his side’s lop-sided loss, Wells thanked his friends, family and country for their support.

He also paid tribute to his close friend and former teammate Tumaini Steede who died in a motorcycle accident last year.

“Just want to thank my family, friends, fans, and Country on all the support and love they showed not only me but my fellow team mates! Words cant express how much I appreciate it,” Wells wrote on Facebook.

“With out you guys none of this was possible! I also want to Congratulate Swansea on there Capital One Cup!!!

“The road to Wembley was a unbelievable experience for me and I couldn't of asked for a better team to travel that journey with!

“R.I.P Tumaini Steede this is all for you brada!!!!

“Now lets let promoted BCFC!!!”

Bradford's league form has, perhaps understandably, suffered in the midst of their cup heroics.

They have won just once in League Two this year and are in 11th place, eight points off the play-offs
