Bermudians featured on US TV homes show

Anne Kast and Lynda Milligan-Whyte are to feature on US cable TV Home and Garden network about buying a home in Manhattan.

A Bermudian woman's search for the ideal Manhattan apartment is to air tomorrow on cable's Home and Garden network.Investment manager Anne Kast eventually found her home away from home, on West 57th Street.“I love Manhattan,” Ms Kast said from the new one-bedroom apartment. “It's got so much energy, the view from this floor is great I can see the Statue of Liberty.”The search for the right agent took her to reality television, courtesy of friend Lynda Milligan-Whyte.Ms Kast said: “My family has a studio apartment in Midtown, where my daughter was living, and I went up myself from time to time. Subsequently, after I sold my business, I thought it'd be nice to have a place of my own, and Lynda, who's one of my dearest friends, told me about this TV show that could help.”Ms Milligan-Whyte said: “When she mentioned that she was considering purchasing an apartment in New York, I immediately thought of one of my favourite HGTV programmes, ‘Selling New York' ... Anne did view the programme, and was so impressed with the New York real estate firm of Kliers, which is run by a group of competent women, that she contacted them to determine whether they would be interested in assisting her with her search for a New York apartment.”Invited onto the show, Ms Kast invited Ms Milligan-Whyte to be involved as “a second set of eyes”.“A lot went into it,” she said. “We filmed five scenes and each scene took about four hours.“The first was in February, and the last was the closing deal in the law office. That was in late April.”The hour-long show will appear on HGTV, Bermuda CableVision channel 46, at 10pm.The network's website describes the episode as “helping a high-profile banker find a pied-a-terre”.Ms Milligan-Whyte said the two took the show as an chance to promote the Island.“It was an amazing opportunity to be involved with such a high-profile show and get to see a wide range of apartments in New York from the East side to the West side.“Of course, we also took the opportunity to mention Bermuda whenever we could, and invited Kliers to consider showcasing some of Bermuda's high-end properties to international clients which they are very interested in pursuing.”The apartment Ms Kast settled on turned out to be in the same building as her daughter's just another 20 or so floors higher up.Useful website: www.hgtv.com.
