Distance distance runners Juma Mouchette and Rachel Fox will lead an 18-member Bermuda Pacers track team in the United Age Group Coaches Association Invitational track meet at Widener University in Philadelphia this weekend.Carifta Games medallist Mouchette will compete in the 17-18 boys 800, 1500 and 3,000 metres during the three-day meet while Fox will run in the 17-18 girls 400 and 800 metres. Both runners recently represented Bermuda at the CAC Juniors in El Salvador and will go into this meet confident of being in medal contention.“I’ve been there a number of times, most of the time I have been successful and come away with medals,” said Mouchette whose 13-14 3,000 metre record of 9:48 still stands.“I didn’t know my record for the 3,000 still stood so I’m pleased with that. This summer has been some good exposure for me, just coming from El Salvador where I ran a good time so I’m looking to go to Philly and North Carolina (East Coast Invitationals next week) to better my times. I’m looking to break nine minutes (in 3,000 metres).“This is a good way to end the track season, it’s always one or two people who are competitive. It’s not as big as East Coast but this year will be more competitive.”Fox, also 17, will be competing in the United Age Group track meet for the first time and looking to improve on her times in both the 400 and 800 metres.“I feel very confident about it, I’m going out there looking to medal and run a PB of 2:15 in my 800 and a PB in the 400 metres of 57 seconds. I’m kind of disappointed I didn’t get a medal at the CAC but I ran my best so I can’t be too disappointed.“This is my first time travelling to Philadelphia as I’ve been overseas in school but I’ve been to East Coast numerous times and I’m looking forward to the competition. This will help prepare me for the bigger track meet at East Coast and hopefully when I go there I’ll do even better.”Other Carifta athletes travelling with the team are Jahmari Sutton and Deese Booth. Sutton will take part in the 15-16 boys 800m, 1500m and high jump, while Booth will see action in the 17-18 girls shot and discus.Jah-Nai Perinchief will compete in the 15-16 boys 400m, triple jump and high jump while Jared Lawrence will also race in the 15-16 age group in the 100 and 200 metres. The club will also be sending some of their young female athletes to compete in the 11-12 age group. Syriah Lottimore is in the field for the 200m, 400m and long jump, Oné Hart in the 100 and 200 metres while Zahra Wilson competes in the 400 and 800 metres.Six other members of the club will be making their first appearance at an international meet.Nine to ten boys pair Samual Darrell and Jaiden Furbert Jacobs are in the 100, 200 and 400 metres and long jump events.Makayla Tucker will compete in the 100 and 200 metres and long jump and Alexcia Burrows in the eight and under 800 and 1,500 metre races while Tesyah-Mahle Astwood is entered in the 400, 800 and 1,500 and Che-chula Dowling in the eight and under girls 800m and 1,500m.In total, the athletes will be in 42 individual events in what will be the fourth appearance at the meet by the Pacers. An estimated 1,500 athletes are expected to take part, representing 42 teams from the US, mainly the East Coast, and three teams from Canada, Bermuda and Barbados. The Pacers team leave today and return home on Monday. The team will be accompanied by coaches Cal Simons and Monique Lugo and by three club executives.
