Bay and St. David’s clash in battle for Twenty20 title

Eastern Counties rivals Bailey’s Bay and St. David’s will meet tonight in the first of three matches in eight days when they contest the coveted Lindo’s T20 final at Somerset Cricket Club.Bay, who beat St. David’s to win the Belco Cup in May, will go into tonight’s match as favourites, having taken over the lead in the Logic Premier Division where they remain the only unbeaten team.They will put that unbeaten record on the line on Sunday when they host the defending 50-overs champions at Sea Breeze Oval in what will be a preview of the much-anticipated Eastern Counties second round clash next Saturday at the same venue.Tonight’s clash under lights should be a close encounter as both teams were comfortable winners in semi-finals there over the last three weeks.St. David’s beat Willow Cuts by 94 runs while Bay stopped Southampton Rangers by eight wickets. Both teams will feature players who played in Cup Match a week ago, Bay led by captain Stephen Outerbridge, Rodney Trott, Terryn Fray and Kyle Hodsoll while St. David’s will be hoping Fiqre Crockwell, Delyone Borden, Justin Pitcher and Stefan Kelly will bounce back from their defeat in Cup Match with St. George’s.Stephen Outerbridge, captain of Bailey’s Bay, believes the rivalry that exists between the two teams should make for an exciting final.“The Lindos T20 tournament has become a major part of the senior domestic season and Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club is very excited to have an opportunity to capture this prestigious trophy,” said Outerbridge who was part of Somerset’s winning Cup Match team seven days ago.“I am looking forward to having the opportunity to beat our Eastern County rivals St. David’s, and hopefully it will give us the momentum needed to be successful on August 12 (50 overs League) and August 18 (Eastern Counties). I expect a very entertaining game of cricket between these well matched teams.”The match starts at 6.30 and an entry fee of $5 will be charged to raise funds in support of the BCB National Academy Under-13 and Under-15 UK Tour.* Glenn Blakeney, Greg Maybury and Stefan Kelly are the three shortlisted players for the Warrington (Soup) Zuill Annual Cup Match Sportsmanship Award.The award, in its third year, will be presented during the fourth annual Warrington Zuill memorial match between Bermuda Masters and Jamaica Association on September 16 at St. David’s.* League action resumes this weekend with the clash between Bay and St. David’s the pick of the three Premier Division matches.Bay lead the table on 94 points, five points ahead of second-placed Willow Cuts while St. David’s, third, are a further 22 points back on 67 points.Willow Cuts travel away to Southampton Rangers while bottom sides Devonshire and Cleveland meet at Devonshire Rec.Rec. still without a win, prop up the tables with five points from their eight matches while Cleveland sit above them on 22 points.In Logic First Division action, unbeaten Somerset are well on course for promotion back to the Premier Division, with Flatts and Western Stars battling for the second spot.Somerset have 103 points from nine matches while Flatts have 82 points and Stars 72 but with a game in hand.On Sunday, Somerset host Warwick, Flatts meet Social Club at St. David’s, Stars are at home to Somerset Bridge and PHC welcome St. George’s to PHC Field.
