A 48-year-old Paget man was yesterday accused of harassing a Filipino woman by leaving bags filled with human faeces in her backyard.Carlos Astwood was also charged with stalking Esperanza Wilson and prowling outside her Pembroke home. The offences, said to have occurred between November 10, 2012 and February 25, were denied by Mr Astwood in Magistrates’ Court.Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke described the case as one of racial harassment, as it “involved the systematic stalking of a Filipino”.She said Mr Astwood dropped various containers of tissues with faeces in the woman’s yard as well as several bags filled with human excrement.“The defendant was seen on CCTV cameras outside the victim’s home and police, on one occasion, witnessed him doing it,” said Ms Clarke. There was no prior relationship between the two, she said.Mr Astwood denied having a problem with foreigners and said he was involved with a woman who was a foreign national.Ms Clarke noted that Mr Astwood was on bail for a separate matter when he allegedly committed the offences mentioned in court yesterday. The self-employed painter was charged with attempted arson after he was caught on CCTV setting fire to Buzz restaurant on Pitts Bay Road.He claimed his actions were a statement against “cheap labour used by the restaurant chain”.The trial ended in a hung jury after Mr Astwood claimed he set the fire “to get attention” rather than to harm anyone. A security guard was inside the store at the time. The matter is expected to go back to trial in April.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Mr Astwood into custody until a March 22 trial.
