Celebrate Bermuda at The Concert At The Keep

The May edition of the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series will be at BUEI on Sunday, May 19th with the documentary “A River Changes Course”, showing at 3pm, followed by French comedy, “In The House”, at 5.15pm.More details on the films can be found at www.BermudaDocs.com. Tickets are $15 and available at Oceans Gift Shop or by phoning 297-7314.As part of the Heritage Month celebrations for May, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs are hosting a special free Concert at The Keep at the National Museum of Bermuda in Dockyard on Sunday, May 19th.This “cultural jam” will celebrate Bermuda’s people, traditions, foods and culture between 3pm and 7pm. Wendell Dill will be MC for the evening and the concert will feature the Native People of St David’s, the Filipinos, the All Stars Steel Orchestra, the Bermuda Carnival Revelers, the Somerset Brigade Band, Troika, Warwick Gombeys, Showtime United Drumline, Bermuda Squad, Proud To Be Bermudian/John Woolridge, the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band Dancers, Los Bohemios and Plaiting the Maypole.In addition to the entertainment, there will be local vendors available on the grounds. The Tourney will begin at 5.30pm on Thursday, May 30th with Junior events (under 14 and under 18 categories) and continues throughout the evening.Senior (over-18) events will begin on Saturday, June 1st at 10am and will run until completion. Fees will be $5 per event for juniors and $10 per event for seniors. Prizes will be awarded to the youngest volunteer, the oldest volunteer, and the largest family to participate.To coincide with their new Lionfish Taskforce Exhibit, BUEI and the Bermuda Lionfish Taskforce present a lecture by Corey Eddy on Tuesday, June 4th.The Invasive Lionfish in Bermuda: Past, Present and Future will start at 7pm, doors open at 6.30pm and ticketed patrons will be able to view the new exhibit hall from 5pm until 7pm. To purchase your ticket, contact 294-0204.Building on the popularity of the traditional Scottish dancing at their annual St Andrew’s Ball, the Caledonian Society of Bermuda will be hosting a Pre-Highland Games Ceilidh in the ballroom at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Friday, June 14th. This will be a warm-up for the second annual Bermuda Highland Games the next day and the Ceilidh, which will feature the New Dewar’s Highlander Honey, will start immediately after Happy Hour.Tickets cost $45 and includes a free drink, live music provided by a ceilidh band from Scotland, a cameo performance by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Pipe Band and plenty of dancing. The dances are fun and easy to pick up but dancing instructions will also be given on the night. As a fundraiser for their next endeavour, they are hosting BOM Goes Bollywood at Bermuda High School for Girls on Saturday, June 22nd.From 7pm until midnight, can you expect live music, a silent auction, raffle tickets and dinner by House of India.
