Did you spend more or less money than usual this Cup Match? The Royal Gazette took to the streets of Hamilton to find out if residents spent more money than they wanted to, or not.Shannon Thompson, 27, of Paget, spent less than his usual budget.“I planned ahead of time. I didn’t spend much money at Beachfest because I went to Horseshoe Bay and Chewstick wasn’t there this year,” he said.“I got a free Beres Hammond ticket, and I also won money at the Crown and Anchor table. I walked away when I was up actually, so that was a plus.”Mr Thompson also didn’t spend more than he normally would on food.“I did stock up on food, but I didn’t spend more than I would normally spend. I actually spent less than I normally do shopping. I was also at my mate’s house and we just cooked up food and that was it.”Lamar Ible, of Hamilton Parish, said: “I just bought in bulk beforehand. I mostly spent money on alcohol this year.”Pembroke resident Terry Perott lost money playing crown and anchor.“I always spend more. I can’t say how much I lost, but I’m broke. I played Crown and Anchor all day Friday, I didn’t see no cricket,” he laughed.Sean Dill, 42, of Hamilton Parish, said he refrained from making unnecessary purchases during Cup Match.“I spent less. I didn’t buy all the memorabilia and all the different little outfits and things like that.“I went to Cup Match late and I didn’t gamble, so I didn’t spend that much money.”Elijah Hassan, 19, of Hamilton Parish, went out to several of the Cup Match Festivities.“I spent way more. I’m a partier, so I spent it all on alcohol and food. I spent everything at the bar.”La Reine Brinsloo of Southampton, and Janie Nel of Paget, spent less this year.“We were there for the game on Friday,” Ms Brinsloo said. “Everyone was a little more drunk than we were,” she laughed.Ms Nel added: “We spent most of our money on drinks. We didn’t really budget for it, we just ensured we had enough food and drinks.”Nigel Lee, 21, of Devonshire, had to work during Cup Match this year.“I spent less because I was working. I didn’t need to stock up this year,” he said. “My usual budget is usually $500, maybe a little less, maybe a little more. That’s mostly for food and alcohol though.”
