PwC donates 120 laptops for public-school students

Laptop donation: Tom Miller, managing director, PwC Bermuda, with Education Minister Nalton Brangman, as Andrew Beek, director of information technology at PwC Bermuda looks on.

PwC Bermuda has donated 120 laptop computers to the Ministry of Education for distribution to school students.

The Ministry’s computer refurbishment programme is initiated toward the end of the fall term each year, with the aim of increasing academic achievement by providing home computers for students. The programme is free to all Bermuda public school students.

Education Minister Nalton Brangman accepted the donation and thanked PwC Bermuda.

“This is a great example of corporate responsibility and sustainable development,” Senator Brangman said. “While technology evolves ever so quickly, it is appreciated that PwC Bermuda understands that these laptops will open a world of possibilities for our students. We are thankful to PwC for this donation and will ensure that the laptops are put to good use.”

Tom Miller, managing director, PwC Bermuda, said: “As part of our approach to corporate responsibility at PwC, we are focused on supporting the development of young Bermudians through a range of community initiatives in schools across Bermuda. With this donation of the firm’s laptops through this excellent Government programme, we are delighted that these computers will see a second life and will prove an invaluable resource for many young people here.”

Andrew Beek, director of information technology, PwC Bermuda, added: “By donating these computers for reuse, we are promoting maximum environmental benefit in addition to social and educational value. We would urge other companies to also consider donating to the Ministry’s computer refurbishment programme, which requires an ongoing supply of replacement PCs every few years.”
