Discover the delights of Bountiful Bordeaux

The Friends of the College Library presents Sharon Wilson Gold, a book signing and presentation by local artist Sharon Wilson on Thursday, January 23rd. In celebration of the Audubon Society’s 60th anniversary, Audubon Society President, Andrew Dobson, will present the illustrated lecture, Bermuda’s Birds: You Don’t Know What You Are Missing at BUEI on Thursday, January 23rd. Andrew Dobson has been recording and photographing Bermuda’s birds for the past 24 years and in this lecture will describe the reasons why Bermuda has such an impressive variety of birds, one of the largest bird lists compared to those of Caribbean islands. Doors open at 6.30pm with Happy Hour prices on drinks at Harbourfront. The lecture itself will start at 7.30pm. Discovery Wines will be hosting their next Wine Class, entitled Bountiful Bordeaux, on Saturday, January 25th. The class will run from 1pm until 2.30pm in their newly renovated warehouse on Bakery Lane in Pembroke. Attendees will receive a plethora of knowledge to show off to their friends as well as getting to sample between five and six Bordeaux wines. The cost is $45 per person. Amnesty International Bermuda will be hosting their 2014 AGM on Thursday, January 30th. This will be at Wesley Methodist Church Hall from 6pm until 8pm and is an ideal opportunity to catch up with what Amnesty International Bermuda have been up to over the past year. To celebrate the rich culture and diversity in their Bermudiana collection, Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents Paint It Black, a Black History Month collection exhibit. The exhibit will open on Sunday, February 2nd from 3pm until 5pm, running until February 26th. The artwork, painted by both local and visiting artists, depicts individuals from the Black community in Bermuda and promises to captivate you with the richness in colour and implores the viewer to journey through the accomplishments, personalities and daily lives of the muse in this exhibit. Now in its second year, Atlantic Publishing House and Blue Hole Hill Productions are bringing back the Deep Bay Music Festival on Sunday, February 2nd. This special music extravaganza will begin at 4pm at Pembroke Community Club on North Shore and featured performers will include special guest Cool Jade Minors, Elca Maranzana, LaTosha Coddrington, Stan “Lord Necktie” Seymour, the AFB Salsa International Dancers and, fresh from their performance at the Havana International Jazz Festival, the Giant Steps Band. The event will be presided over by the Deep Bay King and Queen. Tickets are $50, which includes a light meal, and are available from Music Box. A fun night out for a good cause will be at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in the Botanical Gardens on Saturday, February 8th. A Wine Tasting Evening with Discovery Wines will run from 6pm until 8.30pm and two whites, two reds and two sparkling will be available for tasting along with cheese and chocolates. Jewellery designer Alexandra Mosher will also be on hand with items from her new Heart Collection for sale, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Proceeds will benefit Action on Alzheimer’s & Dementia, who provide services such as training and monthly support group meetings for caregivers. The monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Associés contre le crime (Partners in crime) on Tuesday, February 11th at 8pm at BUEI. This French movie with English subtitles tells the story of the Beresfords, tasked with finding what happened to a Russian heiress who’s mysteriously disappeared.
