County cup comes early for rivals in the east

In the wake of another successful Bermuda Marathon Weekend comes a relay road race on Sunday that organisers hope will become a standard feature of the running scene — the second Eastern Counties Relay Classic.

In the inaugural event last year, the relay began at Flatts Field and finished at St David’s County and Cricket Club, involving the four Eastern Counties clubs as the route took the runners past Harris Bay and to the Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club before finishing in St David’s. This year the runners will run in the other direction, leaving St David’s CCC at 8.30am with the first leg covering 2½ miles before the first changeover at Stocks Point.

The second leg of three miles will be from Stocks Point to Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club, before the third leg takes the competitors on a journey along Harrington Sound Road to Devil’s Hole. From Cleveland County Cricket Club to Flatts Field is the final leg, and the shortest distance, of 1¼ miles.

The entry fee for the race, which is being organised by Swan’s Running Club, is $120 per team of four. Teams can register online at www.racedayworld.com, with today the deadline for entries.
