Lewis Daley, a Warwick Academy International Baccalaureate student, is a 17-year-old with a passion for golf.

Daley moved to Bermuda from Scotland last summer and was immediately drawn to the scenic courses and friendly atmosphere of the Island’s golf clubs.

While Daley said that the coarse Bermuda grass “makes things a little trickier”, Scottish courses are longer in distance and golfers must often cope with the unpredictable weather.

Although the terrain in Scotland was more challenging, moving to Bermuda has provided him with opportunities that he would not have otherwise been exposed to. At the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which was held at the Port Royal Golf Club last October, Daley was given the opportunity to caddie for his favourite player, Adam Scott, who won last year’s Masters at Augusta.

Scott is second only to Tiger Woods in the world tour rankings and has won 23 tournaments around the world. He went on to win the Grand Slam of Golf, setting a course record.

When asked about how he managed to secure the coveted caddie position, Daley said: “The weeks before the tournament, on Saturday mornings, the juniors would go up to Port Royal and help get the course in top condition for the tournament.

“The four Bermuda Junior Golf Association members who put in the most volunteering hours were allowed to caddie for the professionals. Caddying for Adam Scott was amazing. He has always been my favourite golfer and when I found out that he was coming to the Island after winning the Masters, I was very eager to meet him.”

In the six months since moving to Bermuda, Daley has already won a handful of junior tournaments and is planning to compete in the larger competitions taking place later in the year.

The teen added: “The competition from around the world at my age is just getting better and better.”

With experience under his belt, he is already well known in both local and European golfing circles.

Daley plans to pursue his sport through to university and aspires to become a professional golfer.

He was born and raised in Scotland and started playing golf when he was just 2. He grew up just outside of St Andrews, the birthplace of golf.

The town is home to the world-famous Old Course where the game has been played since the fifteenth century.

While living in Scotland, Daley was awarded several titles and earned many noteworthy golfing achievements. He was a North Scotland team member for four years and was undefeated in all matchplay games for them.

He was also the North of Scotland Strokeplay Champion and Junior Club Champion at Forres Golf Club.
