Shrimps, marinated mushrooms, yummy cheeses, pasta — La Trattoria Restaurant and Pizzeria is now offering many of your favourite titbits in a buffet lunch.

The special lunch is being offered three times a week at the restaurant in the Washington Lane in Hamilton. It offers an alternative to the usual lunch options for the busy townie.

The Royal Gazette recently had a complimentary chance to sample the buffet. For professionals who are in a hurry it seems like a great option. You don’t have to wait for your meal to be brought to you; you can just help yourself.

It also seems like a viable alternative if you want to customise your portion size and don’t want to feel too bloated when work resumes, although La Trattoria does offer some of its menu items in half portions. That said, there was plenty to gorge on including potato salad, a couple of different hot pasta options, a quinoa salad, cheeses such as blue cheese and blocks of sharp cheddar and Parmesan, pizza by the slice, and cold cuts.

And the options change from day to day.

One customer grumbled a bit that the potato salad was cold instead of hot, but it seemed a minor issue.

“The pastas change every day,” said executive chef Angelo D’Amato. “The cold cuts change on a weekly basis. We offer about eight to ten salads. We just wanted to give something more to the customer. There are no lunch time buffets mid week in Bermuda. This is our new addition for locals and tourist.”

One office worker who came in to sample the buffet, said she was pleased with it.

“We actually were going to go to a buffet in a different restaurant, but although it was advertised it wasn’t being offered, so we came here instead,” she said.

Catch the special buffet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays, for $18.83.
