Saltus claim double victory

Saltus Grammar School won two titles — the over-nine girls and boys — during yesterday’s Primary School Cross Country Championships at the Arboretum, while Warwick Academy took the under-nine girls’ title and West Pembroke the under- nine boys’ crown.

Saltus were comfortable winners in the girls’ category, finishing with 78 points to Northlands’ 102. Jade Johnson, a recent winner of the Primary School Girls’ KPMG Front Street Mile, claimed victory while Selah Tuzo, of Northlands, placed second and Jessie Bruton, of Warwick Academy, third.

Te’syah Astwood, of West Pembroke, was fourth overall but no other West Pembroke runner finished in the top 20 as Saltus student Koa Goodchild crossed the line in fifth place.

Bermuda High School placed third among the over-nine girls with 124 points while Warwick Academy, 134 points, and Somersfield Academy, 140 points, were fourth and fifth.

In the over-nine boys, Saltus won by 19 points over Elliot Primary, 75 to 94, while West Pembroke finished third on 99 points. Nick Pilgrim of Warwick Academy placed first, T’Syi Showers of West End second and Kahzi Sealey of Elliot Primary third, the same order they finished in the Primary Boys’ KPMG Mile. Tommy Marshall, of Saltus, and Daniel Cook, of Mount St Agnes, were fourth and fifth.

In the under-nine races, Shayla Cann, of Warwick Academy, was the girls’ winner while Katelyn Medeiros, of BHS, was second and Asia-leigh Hollis, of Warwick Academy, third.

Marissa Norville, of West Pembroke, and Yazari Simons, of St George’s Prep, completed the top five. Warwick Academy took the under-nine girls’ title quite comfortably, 60 points to 127, over Saltus while Somersfield Academy were third on 133 points.

Somerset Primary pair Stefan Jones and Paris Mitchell were first and second in the boys ‘race while Gianni Santucci of St George’s Prep placed third. Jahnie Smith of West Pembroke was fourth and Warwick Academy’s Hugo Few fifth.

West Pembroke won the under-nine boys’ title by six points over Somerset Primary while Warwick Academy finished third on 90 points.
