Man caught with cocaine pipe

A Pembroke man caught with a pipe used for smoking cocaine has been sent to drug treatment court.

Chesterfield Johnson, 62, of Union Street, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he was trying to use the drug for medical reasons.

Magistrates’ Court heard he was stopped by police who were checking licences on North Street, shortly before 5am on May 9, 2013.

Johnson dropped an object into the road while handing over his licence. Officers recovered a metal pipe which later tested positive for cocaine.

Johnson was arrested on another matter on September 11, at which point he was charged with possession of drug equipment.

“It works for me, but I don’t want to keep this habit up,” he told the court.

Mr Warner referred his case to the drug court for Johnson to get treatment.
