Fiona Dobson on ‘Globalisation’

“Globalisation” is a poem which was written by Fiona Dobson of Warwick Academy. Fiona is one of the members of the 14 strong inter school delegation who will be representing the country at the United Nations International School Conference from March 5th to 8th. This year the theme of the conference is ‘Globalisation’. The students have been meeting since January preparing for the conference.

Globalisation

There is a tiny island alone in the ocean,

It may seem tranquil yet it’s full of commotion,

It’s a hot spot for business, from reinsurance to banking,

For such a small place it’s really high in the ranking!

Islanders are mixed with people from all over,

From Jamaica to Canada to the White Cliffs of Dover.

The beaches attract tourists from across the world,

As well as golfing and boating as sails are unfurled.

There are assortments of races, accents and culture galore,

With modern technologies mixed with ancient folklore.

The shops are full of products that are mainly imported,

As it relies heavily on other countries to be supported.

It is the island of Bermuda of which we speak,

A place that was once so fantastically unique,

And yet it is transforming right before our eyes,

As it connects with the world and becomes globalised.
