Police motorcyclist crashes

A police motorcyclist crashed into an area of marsh near Barnes Corner, Southampton this morning after losing control of his machine during a training exercise.

The officer was taken to hospital suffering from chest injuries.

Earlier today two men, aged 19 and 20, riding on a motorcycle were injured when the bike was involved in a collision with a taxi.

The accident happened just before 4am near the junction of Harbour Road and Valley Road in Paget.

The injured 19-year-old is said to be in a “guarded condition” with head injuries while the 20-year-old man sustained a broken leg.

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to contact police on 295-0011.

On Thursday a man received serious head injuries and a four-year-old girl was injured when a motorcycle collided with a car around 10.20am near the junction of Marsh Lane and Middle Road in Devonshire.

“It appears that a motorcycle was travelling east Middle Road in Devonshire and a car was turning into Marsh Lane, the junction with Ornamental Iron Works and Noah’s Ark, when the vehicles collided,” said a police spokesman.

“The male rider of the motorcycle received serious hand injuries and his pillion passenger, his daughter received minor lacerations to her head and legs.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the collision, particularly an individual driving a white van, to contact PC Julie Russell on 247-1704.”
