Volunteer readers wanted for World Book Day celebrations

Famous children’s author Dr Seuss once wrote: ‘The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.’

And Nikita Robinson, the radio host of midday show “The Ladies Room” on Hott 107.5, couldn’t agree more.

Mrs Robinson has long been a champion for reading and literacy — and this year to celebrate her birthday she will be hosting the fourth Annual Birthday Book Drive.

The mother-of-two is calling on the community to ban together to provide every nursery and preschool student on the Island with a free book in celebration of World Book Day.

Organisers are looking to collect more than 1,500 books that will be distributed next Thursday.

Mrs Robinson said she was overwhelmed by the public’s response so far, but admitted there were still a few schools in need of support.

“Through the generosity of our listeners and sponsors like Brown & Company, the Hott 107.5FM family is able to promote literacy and a love of the written word to the Island’s most precious resource — our children”.

She invited show listeners, along with the general public, to sponsor a preschool or nursery of their choice by purchasing one book for each child.

Brown & Company will be offering a ten percent discount to customers purchasing books to donate.

Organisers are also in need of volunteers to read to preschoolers ages two to five on March 6.

Mrs Robinson and other staff from Inter-Island Communications have adopted First Church of God Community Nursery & Preschool and will be reading there on March 6th, World Book Day.

Anyone interested in helping Mrs Robinson reach her goal is encouraged to call 297-1076 or e-mail ladiesroom@hott1075.bm.
