Men charged after teen loses finger in alleged sword attack

Two brothers have been charged following a weekend sword attack in which a 15-year-old boy lost a finger and suffered neck injuries.

Javon Deonville Weeks, 29, and Derek Andre Weeks, 27, both from Hermitage Road, Devonshire, appeared in Magistrates’ Court charged with unlawfully wounding the boy in Devonshire last Saturday.

They were also charged with being in possession of a sword with a blade in excess of three inches.

According to Crown counsel Maria Sofianos, the victim’s left ring finger was amputated in the attack and he also suffered a six-inch gash to the left side of his neck.

Neither defendant was required to enter a plea as the matter will be heard in Supreme Court.

The case was adjourned until March 25 by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner, who granted both defendants $10,000 bail with one surety each.
