Police and Renegades reach final

Police defeated Mariners 33-22 to advance to the Nichol Shield final at the weekend.

Guerhardt Lamprecht and John Stathakis both scored two tries and Patrick Graham added another.

Darryn Gillespie scored three conversions, while Dan Cole kicked home another.

Mariners scorers were Ian Frith, who scored two tries, and Dustin Archibald. Rory Dublin scored one penalty goal and two conversions. Police will face Renegades, who defeated a weakened Teachers side 42-3, in the final.

Rich Cumbers scored 17 of his side’s points with two tries, a penalty and two conversions. Paul Dobinson, Alex Donkervoet, John Quigley and Greg Garside also scored tries.

In the women’s Scully Cup, Renegades upset runaway league champions Police 2-0 with two tries from Rebekah Kasumu. Mariners beat Teachers 1-0 in the weekend’s other game, with Neeks Borden scoring for Mariners.

The Nichol Shield and Scully Cup finals will be held on Saturday at Police Field.
