Minors eyes medal success at Carifta

Dage Minors

Dage Minors, the Bermuda middle-distance runner, qualified for two more Carifta Games events while representing the Franklin Pierce University last weekend.

Competing at the BSU Bears Invitational at Bridgewater State University, Minors reached the qualifying mark in the boys’ under-20 1,500 metres and 5,000 metres races.

Minors won the 1,500 metres in a time of 4min 6.07sec and was third in the 5,000?metres in 15:53.21.

The Carifta Games will be held in Martinique from April 19 to 21, when Minors will also compete in the 800 metres.

“I’m pretty pleased with my performances over the weekend,” Minors said.

“I used the event to qualify for some more Carifta events, so now it’s time to get ready for the Games.

“I will run two more meets before Carifta and I really want to be ready for it because the last time I medalled was three years ago in the under-17 division.”

The Franklin Pierce University track and field team won seven events at the meet.

“I’m pleased with the team’s performance,” Minors added. “We all had good weekends and it bodes well for the rest of the outdoor season.

“We could have gone faster but it was really windy and cold.”

Bermuda’s athletes have until Sunday to qualify for the Carifta Games.
