Anna Cann has done it again with another book of inspirational poems.

She released her first two chap books last November and then swore that she didn’t have the time or the inclination to do it again.

“I didn’t intend to do another book, but I got back home from a trip in January and I just started writing again,” she said.

She hopes to release book number three ‘Inspirational Thoughts’, this week.

“I only have nine left of the first book I wrote,” she said. “It was only a small print run. I gave away so many, because it was Christmas time. I didn’t get my money back or anything, but I wanted people to enjoy it.”

This book includes her poems, plus artwork and “recipes” for things like good friends and a happy marriage. For example, a happy marriage requires “a cup of respect”, among other things.

Mrs Cann, 75, started painting when she retired from the now defunct Heritage House. She had never written a poem before, but she asked God to show her how. She soon felt the spirit move her and began to write.

“The good Lord has definitely helped me,” she said. “There isn’t really a particular time of day that I like to write. Sometimes I am up late nights doing it and sometimes something will come to me in the wee hours of the morning.”

She said with her last books people told her felt inspired and enjoyed reading them.

“They were really surprised I wrote poetry and painted,” she said. “I was surprised myself. A lot of people don’t know that I paint. A close friend of mine, that I lost, encouraged me to put my work out there. She said ‘I don’t know why you don’t put your artwork in the stores’. Right now, though, people aren’t really buying artwork.”

Mrs Cann’s ‘Inspirational Thoughts’ will be available for purchase at Caesar’s Pharmacy in Sandys.
