Hall sure Village can save the day

Troy Hall jr North Village

North Village will have to rely on the services of a second-choice goalkeeper for the FA Cup Final against Dandy Town tomorrow, with Troy Hall Jr suspended.

Hall was given his marching orders by referee Leroy Wilson in the 2-1 loss to Wolves that confirmed Town as champions last weekend after denying a goalscoring opportunity by handling the ball outside the penalty area.

“It’s really disturbing that I won’t be able to play in the final,” said Hall, who joined Village from PHC this season and was hoping to cap his season with a first appearance in an FA Cup Final.

“To not be with the team and going out on to the pitch and do battle with them is upsetting.”

Without their first choice between the sticks, Village will call on either Randall Bassett or Deaz Chambers, a former Town goalkeeper, which may give their opponents a crucial advantage.

“We aren’t a one-man team and whoever the coaching staff puts in goal, I hope they perform well because it is a team effort at the end of the day,” Hall said.

“When you look at the overall body of work we have put in this year, everyone has been training and been dedicated, so I have no doubt whoever plays will do well.”

Hall aside, both sides will have a full complement of players at their disposal for what will be a historically defining match. Town, the Premier Division and Dudley Eve Trophy champions, have the chance to complete their second league and Cup Double with a win.

On the other end is Village, who can salvage their season by getting their hands on the most cherished trophy in the land. The Rams finished second in the table, five points behind Town, who came from behind to score an emphatic 7-2 win over Devonshire Cougars last weekend.

The clubs sit on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of overall records in the FA Cup Final, although they have a combined 20 final appearances between them. The Rams have won the prestigious trophy nine times in 12 appearances in the final and winning this weekend will put them level with PHC in the all-time charts.

While Village boast one of the best records in the history of the FA Cup, Town sport one of the worst, having been in 11 finals but winning only three of them. Village also hold the head-to-head Cup Final advantage on their city rivals. Town beat Village 5-2 in the 2012 final, but Village won 4-1 after extra time in 2006 and 3-0 in 2002.

Two other finals will start the action off, with Town will look to grab the PDL KO Cup when they play BAA in the starting at noon, followed by the Masters KO Cup match-up between St George’s Stallions and Young Men’s Social Club at 2pm. The main event kicks off at 4pm.
