Fed Cup team settle quickly in Puerto Rico

The Bermuda Fed Cup team are raring to go in Humacao, Puerto Rico

Bermuda’s Fed Cup team are primed and ready to take to the courts tomorrow for Fed Cup Americas Zone group two action after safely arriving in Humacao, Puerto Rico, last week.

With time to get in a few practice sessions and acclimatise to their surroundings at the Palmas Tennis Club, the team of Tyler Smith, Cayla Cross and sisters Jacqueline and Tara Lambert are ready to cause a few surprises.

Smith is Bermuda’s No?1 player and will shoulder the singles workload with Cross and Jacqueline Lambert, while Tara Lambert will be relied upon in the doubles.

The tournament runs from tomorrow to Sunday, with the captain’s meeting and official draw taking place today.

“The team have settled in comfortably and are getting used to the somewhat high temperatures and the fast tennis courts at the club,” Terry Smith, the coach, said. “The weather conditions are partly cloudy with intermittent rain showers and in the mid-80s, so it is OK for us.”

The tournament will feature four round-robin groups of three. The group winners will progress to a play-off to determine which two countries gain promotion to group one for next year’s tournament.
