Bermuda Docs celebrates ten years of thought provoking films

Promising the world’s best documentary films, the tenth edition of the Bermuda Documentary Film Festival (Bermuda Docs) will be from Thursday, April 17th until Sunday, April 20th in the usual venue of the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI.

This year’s line-up of eleven films over the four days includes such varied subject matters as the real-life Argo, a maverick organic farmer and his unruly cows, the history and changing nature of the French wine industry, the role of the US evangelical movement in Uganda, and more.

From 10am until 4pm, you can see how much more there is to 21st century libraries than just borrowing books, as you enjoy readings, presentations, digital displays, movie, games, prizes, and more, with exhibits by our academic and public libraries, museums, archives and law libraries around the Island.

The Chewstick Foundation’s Bermuda Good Friday KiteFest will be going ahead on Friday, April 18th at Horseshoe Bay.

From 10am until 6pm, this will feature Bermuda’s biggest kite competition, family activities, such as an Easter egg hunt, games, traditional Bermudian cuisine, live music and entertainment.

The Big Chill’s Felix and Tony are expanding their entertainment portfolio for 2014 by adding The Big Calypso, a new 21st century twist to an island music genre. Musicians Joy T Barnum, Tony Brannon, Andrew Chamberlain, Tony Cox and Felix Tod and will be bringing it to life with songs from the early days of Calypso, like Bermuda’s Talbot Brothers, to the latest beats and tunes from the Caribbean.

The Big Calypso will run from 7pm until 11pm at The Reefs on Saturdays from April 19th through October, and at Frog and Onion Pub on Sundays from May 11th.

Introducing the return of safe and fun events for Middle School students as Echo Entertainment and BAA present We Just Want to Party on Saturday, April 26th.

This event is sponsored by the Bermuda Athletic Association and will run from 8pm until midnight with music courtesy of Markie T of After Shock Radio on Vibe 103. Fans of fitness and/or martial arts are invited to the Bermuda Karate Institute’s 32nd Bermuda Open Karate Championships & Wellness Show at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Sunday, April 27th from 10am. Presented by Bermuda’s original karate dojo, BKI, and Bermuda’s only martial arts Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, Skipper Ingham, this event promises a mix of competitions at all levels and age groups, including traditional forms and all levels of K-1 kick-boxing.

The Bermuda Volleyball Association has announced that the 22nd Annual Corporate Volleyball Tournament will be held at Warwick Academy Field on Saturday, May 10th from 9.30am.

This is a six-a-side co-ed tournament, also open to non-BVA members and is intended to introduce new people to the sport of volleyball as well as provide groups/companies with the opportunity to participate in a community event together.

You don’t have to be a corporation to register a team as all groups and organisations are welcome.
