Good Friday is just around the corner. In many households it’s a time to feast on hot cross buns and fish cakes, make kites and visit the beach or another fun, community event.

For local fashionistas, it’s also one of the most opportune times to ‘dress to impress’.

The Royal Gazette’s Lifestyle section polled a handful of women we came across for our Fashion On The Street column to find out what their ideal holiday style would be.

For Marketing assistant Kelly Gilmour, it’s all about the pastel colours; while others like Chantelle Emery are determined to stay away from those shades.

Ms Gilmour, 22, said: “I’ll probably be wearing pastel skin tight pants with an oversized chunky knit sweater probably in white on Good Friday. It’s a nice light colour and I might add to that a dark lip colour, which can be a nice contrast.

“I love a dark lip, it can really make your look.”

She admitted she is typically inspired by the UK’s indie fashions and will often peruse fashion blogs and online shops like Topshop to find out what’s current.

“I went to university in Liverpool so that style is very quirky and that’s where I get most of my fashion inspiration from, the UK and places like Zara,” Ms Gilmour said. “I love pairing prints with a more subtle top. And I think heels with pants really elongate legs and make them look good. I love matching maroon and darker colours for the season.”

Ms Emery, a graphic designer, plans to take a slightly different approach to her Good Friday fashion.

She said: “I will probably wear white for Easter weekend. I don’t do pastels, but want something that’s fresh. So depending on the weather I’m thinking either a maxi or something really tailored and a good pair of heels.”

The 24-year-old said she gets inspired by life and all the colours around the Island.

“Most the time I have on black, but if I do wear colours it’s always something vibrant,” she explained. “I think I incorporate my arts into my outfit by finding different pieces that I feel aren’t common to everyone else.

“I tend to shop at thrift shops so I will accessorise with a really nice bag that might be expensive, but most of my outfit might be really inexpensive, like only a few dollars.”

Creative consultant Marcella Simons, 33, said she wanted to be fashionable and yet comfortable with her clothing choice for next weekend.

“I’m not into pastels and wear a lot of dark colours, but I think for Good Friday I will try the nautical look,” she said. “It’s fashionable, comfortable and classic for spring.”

Business manager Sakeena Talbot, 33, agreed that the nautical look was the way to go for the Easter holiday.

“If I had an ideal look for the holiday next week it would be nautical pin-up,” she said. “I might wear high waisted shorts with a bustier style shirt. It’s getting closer to summer and that’s how I want to feel.”

Rebekah Kasumu describes her style as preppy and said she tries to keep things understated to let an outfit speak for itself.

“I don’t wear too many prints and bold funky things and prefer plain and fitted,” she said.

Ms Kasumu said she finds inspiration from websites like Pinterest and magazines and admitted her style was “very English”.

“I wear blazers on top of my clothes, the ones with the patchwork, similar to a horse rider’s outfit. It’s quite preppy.”

“For Good Friday I’ll probably wear spring time clothes or a dress in bright colours like yellow or pink. The pieces I have bought recently are pastel colours, like peach, which I feel complement my skin tone and are nice and summery.”
