Don’t fly kites near the airport

Play safe: By all means fly a kite on Good Friday, but stay away from the airport and surrounding areas as kites can pose a safety hazard for aircraft landing and taking off.

Good Friday revellers have been warned to keep their kites away from the airport due to safety concerns.

Air Operations Officer Lonnie Bascome said that kite flying is specifically prohibited in the areas of Kindley Field Road, Kindley Field Park, Clearwater Beach and Ferry Reach.

“With the approach of the Good Friday and Easter Holiday weekend, the Department of Airport Operations would like to remind members of the public that kite flying and the launching of Chinese lanterns is forbidden around the LF Wade International Airport and Clearwater Beach areas,” Mr Bascome said.

“Flying kites and launching lanterns in the vicinity of these areas can pose a safety hazard for aircraft landing and taking off.”
