Allison Outerbridge and Kerri Furbert both delivered outstanding performances at the weekend to meet the qualifying standards for the North America, Central American and Caribbean Under-23 Championships (Nacac).

Outerbridge won the triple jump in her last meet for the University of Tennessee jumping a personal best of 12.98 metres, with the standard being 12.60.

Furbert placed first in the long jump with a personal best of 6.05 at the Missouri Relays with the standard being six metres.

Ashley Berry has already met the standard in the 3,000 Steeplechase and Shaquille Dill in the 800

Taylor Ashley Bean is just a few seconds from reaching the standard in the 1,500. The Nacac Under-23 meet is for athletes who are too old for Carifta and are preparing for the senior level of competition.

The Games will be held in Kamloops, British Columbia from August 8 to 10.

“We are hoping to send about six athletes who fall into this age category of 20, 21 and 22,” Donna Watson, the Bermuda National Athletic Association president, said.

Several members of Bermuda’s Carifta Games squad, which leaves for Martinique on Wednesday, participated in a final meet at the National Sports Centre on Saturday.

Jahnhai Perinchief recorded a personal best in the boys’ high jump with a leap of 2.10 metres.

Bermuda brought back five medals from the Bahamas at last year’s Carifta Games.
