Celebrations to mark 135 years of policing in Bermuda

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

The Royal Bahamas Police Force Band will headline celebrations this year to mark 135 years of policing in Bermuda.

Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva said the Bahamas band would star in a police tattoo at the National Sports Centre on October 11, with the Bermuda Regiment Band and others from across the Island.

Mr DeSilva said the traditional Police Week celebrations, which will run from October 4 to October 11, would this year be extended to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Island’s first police force.

In May, police teams will take part in the annual end-to-end walk while a police float will feature in the traditional Bermuda Day float parade.

And on the Wednesday before Police Week begins a convoy of police vehicles from the past, present and the future will travel from one end of the Island to the other, stopping off at schools along the way.

Traditional Police Week events include a Police Parade, a concert at City Hall featuring the Bahamian police band, a sports day, police station open houses and a parade of former police officers and police staff.

Mr DeSilva appealed for contact information for former and police officers, cadets and support staff so they can be included in the police week activities.
