More safe boating seminars planned

The Bermuda Water Safety Council held a boating seminar to promote marine safety.

According to a spokesman, more than 50 people took part in the event, which this year focused on safe boat handling and the international rules to avoid collisions.

“These two aspects were chosen because many boating accidents occur through poor handling practices and insufficient knowledge of the collision regulations,” the spokesman said.

“In addition to the start of the regular boating season, the seminar was imperative for our boating enthusiast and for those participants who have a keen interest and want to know more about the importance of water safety regulations.”

Participants all went through five smaller seminars on topics ranging from safe handling of vehicles to electronic navigation and firefighting equipment, before taking part in a question and answer segment.

The spokesman added that the Council intends to hold regular seminars moving forward to continue to promote safety on and off of the water.
