Pitcher wins sprint to finish in Tokio Millenium road race

Arthur Pitcher outpaced three of his main rivals to win the Tokio Millenium Re road race yesterday at John Smith’s Bay.

In a preview to next weekend’s Butterfield Bermuda Grand Prix, Pitcher recorded a time of 1:45:40.39 to edge out the inform Dominique Mayho who completed the course in 1:45:40.41 while Shannon Lawrence (1:45:40.77) and Darren Glasford (1:45:41.008) were the other cyclists in the mad dash to the finish in the Adult ‘A’ category.

In the Adult ‘B’ division, up-and-coming rider Tyler Smith outfoxed the adults and escaped the front pack before the downhill finish to hold off the chasing riders. Smith finished in 1hr 30 min 15.98 sec, with Dennis Joell, 1:30:16.034, and Adam Hopkin, 1:30:16.53, coming second and third respectively.

Kenten Trott, 1:17:49.41, won the Adult C section ahead of Paulo Medeiros, 1:17:53.08, while Michael Thomas, 1:18:51.48, rounded out the podium spots.

In the women’s division, Penelope Butterfield hit the tape first in 1:22:15.90, ahead of Wenda Roberts in 1:22:16.12 and Heather Cooper third in 1:22:17.20.

Robin Horsfield won the Junior A division, Nahje Smith the Junior B category, while the Junior C title was taken by Alex Southern.
