Jones holds off Trott to claim title

Arthur Jones held on to win the Bermuda Senior Amateur title yesterday at Riddell’s Bay Golf and Country Club by three strokes over Hav Trott.

Jones carded a 72 for a three-round gross total of 213, while Trott failed to close the gap on the last day, shooting a second straight 73 to finish on 216.

David Pickering was a distant third on 231 while Jeffrey Lindo, the defending champion, finished on 234 after his 83 yesterday.

Kathryn Lloyd-Hines was a comfortable winner in the women’s championship, despite shooting her highest total of the three rounds, an 82, to finish on 241. She was 17 strokes ahead of Katrin Burnie on 258 while Lindo Down finished third on 260 after a round of 89.

Raoul Tyrrell won the men’s super seniors title with a two-round score of 168, four strokes ahead of Max Abend on 172.

Leon Nearon finished third, a further stroke back.

The women’s super senior title was won by Veronica Hines with a two-round score of 178, 13 strokes ahead of Shirley Higgins on 191.
