CedarBridge students took part in the school’s inaugural Multicultural Speech Competition as part of a series of activities organised to celebrate multiculturalism.

Students Kaz Godfrey, Daiquin Arorash, Jai Talbot, Akilah Acka, Germaine Darrell and Rhyesheen Suragh all took part in the competition. Each was provided a mentor to help them work on the delivery of a speech on the topic of “What Multiculturalism means to me”, but had to research and write the two-to-three minute speech themselves.

The winner of the competition will be named on Friday as the school marks Multicultural Day.

Judith Gill, from the school’s social studies department, said: “I was delighted with the participation of these students. It is difficult to be first, but these students demonstrated the possibilities of even becoming future debaters.”

Linda Franks, director/underwriting manager of Reid Street Services Ltd, who served as a judge for the competition, added: “I was impressed with the young people who served as judges. What they did was impressive.

“They were able to discern what the issues and strengths were with the speakers and they were able to give valid comments on each. They were meaningful and helpful. They carried themselves extremely well.”

The top three placing students in the Multicultural Speech Competition at CedarBridge Academy were Rhyesheen Suragh, Germaine Darrell and Akilah Acka
