Shares of Butterfield Bank surged three percent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading today.

The bank gained six cents on the trading of 25,000 shares to close on $2.05.

Butterfield’s eight percent preference shares also traded and slid $3.69, or 0.3 percent, to close on $1,179.31.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 28.32 points, or 1.99 percent, to close on 1,448.98.

The BSX Insurance Index rose 6.04 points, or 0.42 percent, to close on 1,439.31.
