A sailboat crossing the Atlantic from Canada was last night adrift 350 miles north of the Island, after the pilot was picked up by a cargo carrier as he diverted to Bermuda.

The 42ft Vagrent was thought by its inexperienced pilot to be taking on water, Bermuda Maritime Operations reported.

He was rescued last night by the vessel Kuala Lumpur.
